One of a Kind-AndArgay, comprises one of the only African theatre ensembles in the world, and the most acclaimed Ethiopian ensemble in Israel, tells the unique story of the Zionist Ethiopian-Jewish immigration to Israel. Celebrated in a harmony of song, dance, drama, and multi media incorporating an animation backdrop, the play speaks in a universal language to both children and adults on the longing and triumph of a people claiming their home.
AndArgay, the lead character, is a 10 year old child who traces the story of his family’s move to Israel through his notebook of drawings. AndArgay’s drawings come to life through Ethiopian animations presented on a backdrop operating throughout the entire play. The narration of the tale is blended together in mesmorizing interactions between animated characters and actual actors, animated scenery and actual set.
One of a Kind-AndArgay is premiering in the U.S. at the San Francisco International Arts Festival 2008 in English and will tour to Seattle New York, Toronto Vienna and to Adelaide Australia!
